About Our Team

In November of 1998, Senny Chung, Avery Arora, Andrea Hui, and Chuck Wen (UC students) submitted a tentative proposal to the UC Literary and Athletic Society, to start a club dedicated to the then semi-obscure sport of dragon boat racing. Their vision:

The University College Dragon Boat Team is a club intended to promote fun, team work, excellence, as well as mental and physical fitness of its members. Our priority is to cultivate a sport which is first about spirit and team cooperation, and about skill and strength, primarily directed towards University College students and anyone else who is interested.

The goals of the team have scarcely changed in the course of its history. From its humble beginning, the University College Dragon Boat Team, now named University College Water Dragons, has transformed into a highly competitive, social and multicultural university racing team that competes in multiple regattas each season. UC Water Dragons is among the top university dragon boat teams and competitive racing teams in Canada.

Water Dragons isn't only about racing and winning. We train hard, we party hard. Paddlers not only gain physical stamina and an athletic mentality, but also are immersed in a bonding environment where they belong. To put it simply, Water Dragons is a family.
